Best moisturizer for mature oily skin? Exuviance Sheer Refining Fluid

Some of us who start with oily skin in our teenage years end up with dry skin when we are in our forties or fifties, while others end up with the same oily skin and sometimes even with adult acne. So if this is your case, have you thought what you should be using and what moisturizer would be best for your mature skin?

Personally, in my case I sit in the middle, part of my face gets a little oily midday and part is a bit on the dry side.. but I know many of my friends who are in their late fifties or sixties and they still get a lot of oil..

I have good news today for those of you with oily and even acne prone skin. This company that is well respected and an authority in skincare, called Exuviance, created a specific product just to address these concerns. Jan Marini C-Esta Face Serum will fight fine lines

Jan Marini Skin Research team has done it again! Once again, they have decided to give us mature women, something that we are in dire need, a vitamin C serum to boost the collagen level of our skin. They have in fact resuscitated this serum that they had created years ago, back in 1994 when it was first introduced to the public: C-Esta Face Serum.

I was lucky enough to secure one of these 30 ml silver airless pump bottles and have been using it since.  To quickly describe it to you, you will pump one pump and you will see that the serum is a light liquid, which is yellow and slightly orange in color, smells like oranges, and is rapidly absorbed by the skin.

As I did clean my face and removed all makeup, I followed it by a mask, and now it is time to use my Vitamin C-esta serum. I apply quickly two small pumps in the palm of my hands, rub my hands together for  a moment then apply it on my face, and it is gone already. A note by Jan Marini in a lovely card accompanied this product and in it, it said apply one pump only. But I am a bit generous with my products and wanted to make sure my entire face is covered so I used 2 small pumps.

Exuviance AGE REVERSE Hand Rejuvenator | banish your hand’s brown spots

With all my experience using Exuviance skincare, I have never been disappointed. I must say that this company is dedicated to constantly look for new ways to make women of all age look younger and preserve their beauty longer. As a middle aged woman, I am paying careful attention to all their creations and this time is no exception. I have received a duo of hand products to test and try and share my thoughts on the duo with my audience.
This is a beautiful set of 2 skincare products — not for your face or your body — but just for your hands. You know that you can tell someone’s age by looking at their hands. I recall this famous hsn sales lady who had had a facelift and at 75 looked like a 45 year old yet there were two things that a careful eye could see and that would give away her age: her hands and her shaky voice. Nothing wrong with aging, but if you are taking such good care with your face, why should you also not take good care of your hands.. mainly the brown spots that appear as we age. I have a few light brown spots. When I was in my twenties and went to swim every summer in the Mediterranean sea, it never occurred to me that I was damaging my skin by sunbathing and swimming in those hot days. So later in life you pay the price.

I also remember a billboard I had seen during my years in Sydney, Australia. The text on the billboard, I read it and never forgot it. It said: “Fry now, Pay later!”.. You perhaps are aware that Australia has the largest number of skin cancer each year. Each year about 250,000 are diagnosed with melanoma, which is the name for skin cancer. People who live in Australia have fair skin, and they like to go to the beach a lot, so at the end a lot of young men and women get skin cancer. Anyway, I digress.

To remove the brown spots on your skin, you apply the peel with a cotton bud, sweep the soaked cotton pad on the back of your hands 2 or 3 times, then apply the cream. Et voila.. do this for 12 weeks, then examine your hands again and see if the brown spots have diminished..
So the same way you do a face peeling, you do the same for your hands.
Your hands are probably washed more often than your face, several times a day, right? But you also know that your hands touch everything every minute you are awake, from morning till the time you go to bed.. so there are plenty of cells that are sitting on the surface and the skin needs to be rejuvenated. Dark spots are visible on mature women hands generally. Things you cannot avoid. Things that happen with age. Same way as you wake up one morning to see that you have hooded eyelids suddenly out of nowhere, the same way you will also notice some brown spots on your hands.. Don’t despair! there is hope! Thanks to exuviance, this company constantly continues to create products for women so that they can stay younger longer.

In my case, I am not expecting them to fully disappear but if they diminish, that means we are on the right track.
Ok about the product. Let’s see. First you get a bottle that looks like eye makeup remover. This turquoise color bottle contains a liquid that is the main product, and you use a cotton bud to pump some of the liquid and gently sweep the cotton pad a few times over your hands. In my case I go over my wrists as well, as I have some brown spots on my wrist and above. Next you squeeze a little bit of the cream from the tube, and massage it over your hands. Feel free to go to bed with the cream on your hands, and if you wish to wear a glove that would be even better. In my case, I can’t wear a glove. In the morning you can repeat the same thing if you want to, and leave the cream for an hour before washing. If like me you prefer to do this ritual at night only, then that’s ok. Continue this treatment for 12 weeks (3 months) and then examine your hands and let’s see if you are happy with the look of your hands.

What does the peel contain? It has 10 % citric acid peel which is anti-aging.
I noticed the cream has a beautiful scent.. sometimes I get turned off by the scent of some creams and I think it is important the scent is pleasant rather than heavy and oily.. This cream went onto my hands like a charm, it was absorbed instantly and I loved the scent so much I kept smelling my hands twice!

Exuviance says: With potent anti-agers CitraFill®, NeoGlucosamine® and Apple Stem Cell Extract, the Hand Rejuvenator Cream helps diminish all the signs of aging on hands; crepiness, loose skin and dark spots, restoring hydration and firmer, younger looking hands.

Neostrata bionic serum – better than hyaluronic acid?

Neostrata Bionic Face Serum

When I ask a sales person what’s in this product and they are able to answer me and tell me that the skincare product has vitamins in it, then I am sold. I like the sound of vitamins plus an acid called bionic or lactobionic which is the cousin of hyaluronic acid and is better tolerated on most skin than the hyaluronic acid.

This serum is exactly what it says it is. The texture is gel like, very serum-ey. In fact, there are products called serum but they are not like traditional serums, they either have a silicone feel, or oil and silicone, yet they are called serum. This serum when you apply a little bit on your fingers before applying on your face, is just the right consistency. It is a liquid semi gel semi watery, and penetrates your skin immediately. At first test and trial, it goes on really nicely into the skin and delivers the potent ingredients right into your skin, before you apply your moisturizer and sunscreen, and you may follow it with a nice foundation. Serums are made up of smaller molecules that will penetrate your skin deeply to deliver a high concentration of active ingredients it contains. Some women don’t know the difference between a serum and a moisturizer or cannot understand why a serum is more expensive and comes in a smaller size compared to the moisturizer from the same brand. The reason is because the serum’s ingredients are more potent, so you are applying less and getting more benefit from it.

Let’s see what this particular serum is meant to do for women over 40 and over 50 who have begun to see the first signs of aging.

On the back of the box, I read that this serum does the following:

It provides intensive moisturization for stressed skin. What is a stressed skin? Let’s find out and understand what they mean when they talk about stressed skin. Dryness, redness, acne, tired eyes are all signs of a stressed skin.

“Chronic stress increases the hormone cortisol, which damages skin’s ability to hold on to water,” says Peter Elias, MD, a professor of dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco. The resulting moisture loss also diminishes luminosity, explains David Goldberg, MD, a clinical professor of dermatology and director of laser research at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.”

This serum is also ideal for use for those who have just had a cosmetic surgery.

Now the most important point: It contains Vitamins A, C and E. Ok this part is important because I know that vitamins are good. Let’s go search and find out what each of these vitamins do for our body. Now you can have them in the form of pills and capsules, or you have them in your skincare.

Vitamin A, also known as retinol, is key for cell growth, and often used as a topical antiaging treatment.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C, ascorbic acid, is an antioxidant that helps tissue grow and repair itself.
Vitamin E

Vitamin E helps the body regulate retinol levels, which is essential for healthy skin.

Next I also see that this serum is suitable for ALL skin types, and that means if you have sensitive skin, redness, or dry or oily skin, you can wear this product safely, each and every day.

Another important point is that is is Fragrance free, hypoallergenic and dermatologist developed. Plus it is made right here in the United States, in Princeton, New Jersey. Now the fact that it is fragrance free is a good thing, at this point, when I am applying a serum with all the vitamins, I don’t really care about having a product that smells good (or bad). No scent is better. It has been developed by dermatologists, so they know (to some extent) what they are doing. I say to some extent, because each and every day there are new discoveries in science and what was accepted to be good today is often replaced by a better product with better ingredients tomorrow. So science will continue to be explored and we shall continue to have better and better products each day that supersede the products created yesterday and hence my search for a good product never stops. I will continue to search for the better product that will help me to stop the signs of my skin aging and make me look my very best till for a long time.

Now as I always like to share as much information as I can about a product that I am reviewing, I will be sharing with you what the company says about the bionic face serum. When I say bionic, I am reminded suddenly of the Bionic Woman, a television show with actress Lindsay Wagner, that I used to watch regularly each week, while growing up in the middle east. Here is what neostrata explains about the ingredients contained in this serum. According to them, this concentrated serum restores skin radiance and complements the benefits of other antiaging product. Labtobionic Acid, a potent antioxidant, plus pro vitamins A, C and E provide intense moisturization and reduce the appearance of fine lines, pores and pigmentation.

To use: apply it on clean face in the morning daily and follow with your moisturizer and sunscreen. Summer is coming so you be sure to wear some sunscreen daily. Apply it all over the face or just around the eyes. I know I will apply it all over my face. Do not leave it in a hot place.

Why do you need moisturizer and why do you also need intense hydration? Let’s find out.

Here is what a good moisturizer will do to fight your wrinkles. It will plump your skin and according to the British Journal of Dermatology, people with properly moisturized skin accumulate wrinkles at just a fraction of the rate of those with dry skin.

Now another question I ask myself. Why does the skin need to be moisturized.

According to dermatologist Dr Doris Day, MD, when your skin is well-hydrated, it is more plump and resilient. This is due, at least in part, to an ingredient in the skin called hyaluronic acid. The job of hyaluronic acid in the skin is to hold water. When there is adequate water from inside and out the skin looks healthier and more vibrant and is less prone to wrinkles. It is important to drink lots of fluids throughout the day for best results. You may drink a lot of water, but remember that coffee and sodas do not count as water because they contain caffeine which is a diuretic, meaning that they draw water out of your system and your skin.

Bionic Face Serum is 30 ml or 1 oz only, comes in a nice beautiful heavy bottle that has a pump and a transparent plastic cap over a silver lid. It is formulated with 10% Lactobionic Acid, a potent antioxidant, and Vitamins A, C and E, this serum provides intense moisturization while amplifying the benefits of other anti-aging products in your regimen.

It appears that according to recent research, lactobionic acid has been shown to be better tolerated than hyaluronic acid which has shown to cause irritation to some users. So as I was saying, new research supersedes previous discoveries and now this lactobionic acid will probably be found more commonly in serums than the hyaluronic acid.

How to use: Can be applied to target areas such as eyes or around the mouth, as an all over facial treatment, used alone or layered under other products.

Key ingredient: Lactobionic Acid

Recommended usage: Daily AM, under sunscreen or Daily PM under a night moisturizer

Finally you will ask what is the cost of this serum. It costs $78 at www.neostrata.com

L’Occitane milk concentrate | great gift for mothers day

Since L’Occitane offered me this cream, I am using it and loving every moment of it. It is so light that it feels a bit like a souffle.

This cream comes in a heavy glass jar, and has a shiny lid. Mother’s day is coming soon and if you are not sure what to buy for your mom, see if you think this might be a good gift.

It retails for $50 at l’Occitane

How does l’Occitane describe this product?

They say:

Enriched with powerful almond extracts, our Almond Milk Concentrate melts into the skin in a creamy and silky texture, to help skin look more smooth.

Skin feels nourished and comfortable thanks to the association of almond milk and oil, which helps to moisturize and soften the skin. A new complex, associating walnut seed and almond extracts, makes skin seem smoothed and more beautiful.

The almond nut, which grows protected in a beautifully soft and green velvet shell, is renowned for its ability to soften and smooth the skin. L’OCCITANE is committed to purchasing almonds from producers in the South of France so that the almond tree, which had long been forgotten in the region, once again becomes a familiar element in the Provençal landscape.

Itty Bitty Beauty Budget Bits | by Ardith McCann

The only budget smaller than my beauty and skincare budget is what I can cough up for new shoes. After decades of splurging for brands like Lancome and Caudelie, my new beauty hunts are CVS and Walmart, Amazon, and Pinterest (for DIY recipes).
I have attempted many times to McGyver my way to homemade beauty remedies, but honestly I fail every time. I have learned that my skin hates coconut oil, that rosehip oil does nothing at all, that Castille soap drives me crazy with its scum property and the fact that it clogs my pores. I gave up my dream of making my own foaming facial cleanser because every single recipe calls for that darn Castille soap! I’ve learned that cocoa butter is not the cure all I’d hoped for. (I still hold hope for the promise of glycerin.) On the retail side, Burt’s Bee products failed me, as have other natural brands like Acure.

Outside of trying to use soap nuts as a facial scrub, I feel like I’ve tried virtually all of the organic, natural, simple skincare ingredients and recipes plastered all over Pinterest. Plus, it costs some serious dolares to build an inventory of ingredients and tools for natural homemade products. And then there is the storage of said items to consider.
After five long years of diligent research and experimentation, here is what my skin has taught me about how to care for it within my budget constraints.

#1 Budget Beauty Lesson
I am not an all-natural gal.
I cannot simply go to my pantry and slather on coconut or olive oil. I don’t look great without makeup. Just because something is pure and organic does not mean I’ll be able to use it on my namby-pamby epidermis. My skin is picky, very picky about what I put on it (as is my hair).
#2 Budget Beauty Lesson
It gets expensive trying to find the right inexpensive skincare and makeup products.
I am still on the hunt for a reasonably priced facial moisturizer. I have tried those raved about on social media, like Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Gel Cream. It’s bunk, at least according to my skin (although their hydrating gel cleanser is surprisingly good). Ditto for Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré. So much hype, so little reality for me.
This ongoing search is really, really frustrating. How can there be so many choices out there, but not one right for me? So, I just keep using Aquaphor as I continue my apparently quixotic quest for the perfect facial cream.
On a positive note, I just fell in love with Curél®’s Ultra Healing body lotion. I can’t believe my joy about the fact the hype is real. My skin loves this lotion. It’s been years since it felt this normal, soft. But it took a couple of millennia and many small dollars to reach this point.

#3 Budget Beauty Lesson
Someone needs to develop a brilliant parametric search tool/app for skincare and makeup products.
I’d do this myself, except I have absolutely no technical aptitude. There are a bazillion products to choose from, with more being introduced everyday. It makes my head spin, The Exorcist style. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have access to a database that accurately translates your personal input into a short list of brands, even groups of products best suited for you? That, my friend, would be beauty bliss.
Meanwhile…
This budget-challenged beauty maven must live in the real world. For what it’s worth, here is a quick breakdown of the brands that I have found work for me thus far and how I use them:
  • Aquaphor: Face moisturizer (for my extra dry skin)
  • No 7: Foaming facial cleanser
  • Neutrogena: Gel face cleanser
  • e.l.f/skincare: Cream face cleanser, oil-to-foam face cleanser
  • e.l.f/makeup: Eyebrow kit, face powder, cream highlighter, eyeshadow, eyeliner (I do not like any of their lip products, at all)
  • Stila: Cream blush, the best blush I have used to date (it blends beautifully)
  • Jordana: Lip gloss, by far the best I have tried at any price point
  • L’Oreal: Foundation, mascara (Butterfly)
  • Ponds: Eye makeup remover (cold cream), the best I have ever used
  • Curél: Body lotion (Ultra Healing)
  • Bain de Terre: Shampoo and conditioner (Coconut Papaya and Passion Flower)
So, how goes your beauty products quest?
