My favorite brushes and why I love them so much!

in Cosmetics photos, Cosmetics world, Product review
There are brushes that I would never share with anyone and never lend to anyone, let alone use on anyone else. There are brushes I can’t live without, when I do my own makeup. These brushes I discovered them after collecting various brands of brushes and these proved to be the very best in terms of quality, size, shape, exceptional design etc. Here they are.
My first favorite is this brush from Paula Dorf. For a long time I did not know much about Paula other than hearing her name now and then. Then I decided to try a few things from her and when I saw the brushes, I immediately knew that she was different than others (who basically copy each other: take for instance Mac brushes. Every other company (sigma, other cheap made in china brands..) copy mac brushes and they are all similar more or less). With Paula Dorf, she is a true makeup artist who is not afraid to go outside of the norm, and she created brushes that really work well, and do their task. Each brush does something different and does it well.

Shaped to fit your entire eye. Apply Paula Dorf Eye Color in a patting motion across lid or use for blending. For best results, always begin with Paula Dorf Eye Primer using Eye Primer Brush. This beauty sells for $30.
My next brush – I really cannot put an order on these brushes because they are all as needed as the other – is this one. It has a tiny head, and you can use it no matter whether you have large eyelids or small eyelids.. it is excellent to go over the eyeliner with some dark color powder and for women over 40 when eyelids start to become hooded, then you need to use eyeliner and to stabilize it, you apply powder over the eyeliner. This brush does that. Excellent shape. Better than the one created by MAC or Chanel.

Custom designed brush achieves soft, natural definition around the eye. Start from outer corner and blend in a back and forth motion. Use with Paula Dorf Eye Color. Retails for $20
Now my next brush is this one wet/dry brush. I never used it wet so far.. It has just the right size for my eyelids.. this is to apply color over the eyelids. It is also by Paula Dorf.

Unique firm brush provides perfect placement and full coverage to create dramatic eyes. Use with cream or powder Eye Color. Always begin with Paula Dorf Eye Primer. This is expensive at $34.
FAN Brush by Paula Dorf: At first I did not think I was going to use this brush so much, then as I started using it occasionally, I discovered that I am loving it.. if you only know how to hold and use this brush, you will love it too. Check some of my tutorials where I explain how to hold it and move it. I use it for blush and bronzer.

Designed to apply a light, even application of bronzer for a natural looking glow. Use with Paula Dorf Bronzing Powder as a finishing touch where the sun hits your face. $32 Bronzing Brush
As I was browsing at Ulta one day, with nothing in particular in mind, I went to the Dermablend section, since from time to time I get clients who need heavy coverage or have a lot of pimples.. I found this brush and I said to myself it reminds me of a larger one similar shape made by coverFX, the Canadian brand, and I never got to buy that one because I read that it was shedding. So I thought for $22 this one was much smaller and would give me excellent application around the nose and in the corner of the eye. I bought it and used it a few days later.. oh my God. What a fantastic brush!! It is well worth the $22. Take it with you anywhere you go!

Dermablend concealer brush:
Black Bamboo Handle: Bamboo is a highly renewable and sustainable resource and is one of the fastest growing plants on earth.
Black Glossy Ferrule: made from recycled aluminum
Brush Bristles: contain no animal hair
Application:
The specially designed tapered bristles of this brush allow for the most precise application of Dermablend concealers. For eye area start from the inner corner and continue towards the outer eye near the lashes. For better coverage utilize brush in a dabbing motion directly on desired area.
$22
So if you know me, you know that I always talk about my favorite eyebrow brush. That is by Bobbi Brown. I like the fact that it is made with boar hair and it brushes the eyebrow hair while adding the dark powder. If you are over 45 you may have noticed that your eyebrow may present some areas where there is not much hair and the most natural way to counteract that is to apply powder, not eyebrow liner. Powder! Choose a color that is close to your hair color and to the color of your eyebrow. Don’t go too dark unless you are shooting for a dramatic look. Bobbi’s brush does the job the best!!
The one next to it, is the gel eyeliner brush by Bobbi Brown. When you don’t want to use a pencil liner, use gel eyeliner for a more visible and dramatic effect. This is a great brush.
When I was shopping by myself at Nordstrom, I stopped at the NARS counter and looked around. I got a full face makeup of course, since I like to see how other makeup artists do their job.. and found this brush.. I bought it immediately. It is original, unusual and I had only seen a similar brush in a makeup book that I own. So since then this brush became my best friend. I wash it weekly not daily like others, to ensure I preserve it for a long time.

Nars bronzer brush: Small and flat, the angular design of the Kabuki Ita Brush makes it ideal for controlled application of powder and color. It is also excellent for blending, contouring and highlighting the complexion.
Made with very soft Pen Super Goat hair, which is ideal for blending pigments. this retails for $39
What is Palovia?

Palovia Palovia… where were you all this time..
Palovia just entered in my life out of nowhere! zapped to me from the other side through a gateway!
Since I heard about it, I have been researching it for about a week now and soon, very soon, I will start using it on myself: hopefully tonight! Tonight is the night!
Let’s take a moment and look at it.. and read basic information. I have never had the luxury to go to dermatologists offices to do any kind of rejevenation treatments. Makeup yes, a lot, in every department store in every country I lived in.. but not really rejuvenation of this kind.. so now I am very excited to test this product on myself and maybe even.. on my husband.
The first FDA-cleared, at-home laser clinically proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes.
In the past, comparable skin renewing laser treatments were only available in a doctor’s office. Now, you can use this same technology at home. Unlike lotions and creams, which are most effective on the skin’s outer layer, the PaloVia Skin Renewing Laser also works belowthe surface where wrinkles form. (See why the laser for eye wrinkles works.) The results are natural-looking, but dramatic. Clinical studies have shown that, with just 3 – 4 minutes a day for one month, you can reduce eye wrinkles and reverse the signs of aging.* Ongoing occasional treatments help you maintain your youthful appearance … on your own time, without costly follow-up appointments. Don’t let crow’s feet make you look older than you should; try the next generation of eye wrinkle treatment today.
I now have read everything I could find online. I was going to say everything I could put my hands on.. but no, since the birth of the internet, we do everything online. Right ladies? We no longer go to a bar to meet men, we find them online on match websites. Whatever you want, just ask for it, and the internet will provide it to you. So now that I am consumed and almost obsessed with the desire of removing a few wrinkles from the sides of my eyes, over my cheekbones, I can’t wait to try this futuristic device. I hear that this kind of treatment was something done in the clinic of a dermatologist or specialists, and now you can do this at home..
Is this the wrinkle removing ‘wand of the future’.. when do we get the version where you can use it all over your face and start looking ten years younger?
I don’t assume this would be something a young 20 something would be interested in.. so ladies this is for us.. the over 40 and the over 50′s. Are you all here? Can you hear my excitement! Stay tuned for more coming soon! oh wait.. here is what 2 ladies had to say about this device.

Sister of the bride – Makeup for redhead
06 May 2012 1 Comment
and now let’s take a look at the sister. She said her main concern was her skin and she had problems and wanted very heavy coverage to cover it all.. I don’t like to use very heavy coverage because the skin will not breathe and this leads to more problems later on. So I covered her skin and we were able to get 75% of the blemishes under cover, but other than that, she said she was very daring with colors. So she showed me the dress she will be wearing (light blue gray) and I asked if she would consider silver.. so then I started working and her eyes happened to be her most beautiful asset.. I did not do a total silver but mixed it with other shades.. and here is the look before and after makeup.
Glitter over 50? yes you can!

What can makeup do for you
06 May 2012 Leave a Comment
Now and then I like to talk to you about makeup. The power of colors and how I believe that music and colors can uplift your spirits. And as everyone knows, when you look good (outside, on the outside), you feel good (on the inside) and this in turn has an effect on your actions, words, and decisions you make. Therefore to go one step further, I will say and reiterate that taking care of your appearance and your physical body, falls on you and is your responsibility.. because in this body, inhabits your soul, which is immortal and when the body is gone, the soul continues its journey elsewhere.
So now the question is: can makeup lift years off your face? The answer is yes. Once you know how to use colors to your advantage, using the rights shades in the right places, you will look your very best. Beauty you did not know you had. Seeing my clients eyes smile at the end of the makeup, the entire face transformed, is what drives me.. it is like a drug I need. I need my fix. So long story short, yesterday a bride to be and her sister came to see me for a trial run. I am sharing with you some photos I took.
When I was done with the two sisters who came to see me yesterday, they both looked much younger. This lady below if the bride to be and her concern was her eyes. While she said she was conservative, she also mentioned that she does not know what to do with her eye makeup and how to apply eyeshadow properly. Most importantly she trusted me, and this is part of the synergy. When there is trust, there is freedom to act as I please, while staying within the norms of her expectations.

I had this product for a while and had used it once or twice. Today on an impulse at the last minute, I decided to add a little bit of this magic product to my eyelids.. How beautiful it is. I find it a little hard and unconventional type of product, but it is amazing! Check the photos. Video to follow.
I like Decleor

It is a line of products made in France. They are good with the face oils and body oils. I also love their lip balm.. I bought it a few years ago and still using it now and then.
Today I saw on the “hautelook.com” website that they have advertised for decleor products on sale, almost half price. If you want to try them, it is the time to buy. The only negative is that they will charge you about $10 for the shipping.
Makeup for Ever lipstick palettes
03 May 2012 Leave a Comment
Since I never tried Mufe lipsticks and I heard they are very pigmented, I decided to give it a try to their 5 lipstick palettes.
They come in several color families. The one I requested was out of stock, then the other 3 I suggested were also out of stock, so I settled in on the number 10 (Peach). It is the second from the bottom on the right hand side column. Once I see how is the quality is, I can tell more about it. So when I get this palette, I will take some good photos and post them here so you too can have an idea. Often the way a product is displayed on a website like mac, or makeup forever is not the very best, and in fact it is poor description of the product. As you know they say a picture is worth a thousand words. So instead of giving us a description (which could be how they perceive the product to be, and the same product will look different on different people), why not give us a great photo instead.. luckily you can rely on bloggers to locate some good photos, but that entails sitting on your computer chair and doing some surfing or digging the net.
Ok so here is what I see on my computer screen and these are the color selection / shades that I ordered since the ones I wanted were not in stock. Let’s see how they will look when they come since the colors are not transmitted correctly from the photo to the monitor of a computer. I will take photos of the actual colors when they are delivered to me.
